Sight and Sound is owned and operated by Fredericton broadcaster Larry Dickinson.
Larry, a native New Brunswicker, has been in the media since 1963 working in both public and private radio and television as an announcer, technician, commercial production manager, music director, ENG editor, AD, Associate producer and VTR operator.
Initially an avid amateur wedding photographer, he developed the business over several years branching into the field of video: I have a good reputation and 99% of my business comes from word-of-mouth referrals. Weddings were great, but they were concentrated on weekends in the summer. I had to diversify, so I decided to go after the commercial video market. It meant, and still means, working hard to develop clientele. There is a good market for industrial video work. Smaller companies often need internal, promotional and documentary work done. They can’t afford to pay a large production company with broadcast-quality equipment to do it. But a small company like Sight and Sound can afford to charge less because our overhead is less. I also think it is very important to keep the personal touch in business, if you get too big you lose that personal contact with the client. — Larry Dickinson, The Daily Gleaner, February 1992
I’ve got orders from all over the States.” said Larry Dickinson, owner of Sight and Sound, a video production company which he operates out of his home. Sight and Sound has been on the World Wide Web for about four years now, and Dickinson said the orders and inquiries it generates account for approximately 25 per cent of his business. — Larry Dickinson, The Daily Gleaner, April 1999
